Old Orchard Seed Co
Germination Guide
1. Soak seeds in clean water in pitch black darkness for 18-20 hours.
2. Bring soil to field capacity (where the soil barely trickles when squeezed)
3. Create a 1/4” – 1/2" divot where the seed will be planted.
4. Place seed in hole, with the pointed side up. (If the eye of the seed is pointing upwards, it will be upside down and become potentially stunted early on)
5. Lightly cover the seed and hole with surrounding soil, and gently tamp the soil in.
6. Keep the container and seed in pitch black darkness for 2 more days (48 hours of darkness).
7. Put container with seed under lamp or in full sun. (if using black containers in full sun, beware of soil getting very hot, pre-paint black containers with white paint on the outsides or cover with white duct tape to keep some of the heat down)
8. Keep soil moist, do not over water and do not let the soil dry out. I like to use a squirt bottle for the first week or so.
Seeds normally pop within 18-48 hours. Signs of growth usually occur at 3-7 days.
